Children usually train with boxing gloves of 6 oz, 8 oz, or 10 oz. Very occasionally, for really small children, there are even 2 oz or 4 oz gloves.

The following are general guidelines. For each brand and model 

Choosing by age:

• up to 3–4 years old – 2 oz
• up to 4–5 years old – 4 oz
• up to 6–8 years old – 6 oz
• up to 9–11 years old – 8 oz
• from 12 years old – 10 oz

Choosing by body weight

• up to 35 kg – 6 oz
• 35–45 kg – 8 oz
• 45–55 kg – 10 oz

We have also created unique size charts for this purpose. Here, you can check both age and weight. If in doubt, we recommend considering weight rather than age.

The rule of thumb is: “the heavier the child in question, the heavier the glove should be”. A heavier boxing glove generally has more padding and is therefore safer for both the hands and the training partner. Trainers also generally prefer you to use heavier boxing gloves rather than lighter ones.

There is no specific age requirement. The youngest possible age is around 4, but most gyms set the minimum age at 7 or 8. Please check with the gym you would like to take the child to.

Boxing gloves that fit well are certainly safe for children. Of course, several important factors matter: the length and width of the hand compartment and the wrist closure. If they fit securely without being too tight, they are safe to use.

Do not buy kids boxing gloves that are too large either, because excessive looseness causes them to shift, which is not good.

Wearing inner gloves is recommended for young children who sweat a lot. The sweat is absorbed by the inner gloves, which you can then wash. This keeps the gloves fresh for longer.

For older children, we recommend wearing handwraps. These provide more support and protection. It is up to the trainer to decide what is best.

Boxing gloves have a limited lifespan. After all, they are used for hitting, and boxing gloves often take quite a beating.

Of course, you can influence their lifespan yourself by treating them with care and boxing gloves properly care for them. Don’t throw them in a corner; take them out of your sports bag and let them dry properly (not in direct sunlight).
