All About Shoes & Footwear

Below you will find everything about choosing and fitting boxing shoes – from the difference between mid-top and high-top to size advice per brand, the best models for boxing and kickboxing, and the right ankle guard for your sport and level.

Why boxing shoes are essential for your training

Boxing shoes are not ordinary sports shoes - they are specifically designed for the movements that boxing demands. The thin, flexible sole gives you more contact with the floor, allowing you to turn, shuffle, and execute combinations faster without losing grip.

The biggest difference from regular sports shoes lies in the sole and the shaft height. Boxing shoes have a flat, lightweight sole that adheres optimally to the floor of a ring or gym. This gives you the stability you need for quick changes of direction and explosive punches.

Many models have a higher shaft that provides extra support around the ankle. This is especially valuable during sparring and intensive training, where your ankles are heavily stressed by quick lateral movements.

Boxing shoes are worn during boxing training, sparring, and conditioning training - in combination with boxing gloves, of course.

Boxing shoes models compared: mid-top vs. high-top

When choosing boxing shoes, the shaft height is one of the most important decisions. The two most common variants are mid-top and high-top, and both have clear advantages and disadvantages depending on your training style.

Mid-top boxing shoes offer a good balance between ankle protection and freedom of movement. They are slightly lighter than high-tops and give your feet more room to move during quick, lateral movements. This model is popular among boxers who focus a lot on footwork and speed. The Hayabusa Strike is a strong example of a quality mid-top.

High-top boxing shoes offer maximum ankle support and are ideal for boxers who need extra stability during sparring or intensive training. The higher shaft—often combined with an extra ankle strap—keeps the joint firmly in place during sudden changes of direction. The Everlast Elite 2 is a classic high-top model with proven performance.

The choice depends on your level and training intensity: beginners often benefit from the extra support of a high-top, while advanced boxers sometimes prefer the freedom of a mid-top.

Size advice boxing shoes

Boxing shoes fit differently for most brands than regular sports shoes. It is therefore important not to rely blindly on your usual shoe size, but to consult the size information per model.

Measure your foot as a starting point. Measure the length of your foot without shoes and compare this with the size chart of the specific model. Sizing systems vary by brand and by shoe – even within the same brand this can differ.

For Hayabusa , the rule of thumb is: choose your normal size for a looser fit, or one size smaller for a traditional, snug fit. This applies to both the Strike and the Talon and Pro models.

For Everlast (Elite 2) sizing is normal. Choose one size smaller for a tight fit, or your normal size for more room.

If you are unsure between two sizes, always choose the larger size for boxing shoes – shoes that are too tight hinder blood circulation and footwork. - te strakke schoenen belemmeren de bloedcirculatie en het voetenwerk.

Hayabusa Strike boxing shoes

Hayabusa is one of the most respected brands in martial arts and is known for the combination of premium materials, a snug fit, and functional design. Hayabusa boxing shoes are developed for boxers who demand high levels of grip, stability, and comfort.

The top model at Fight2Win is the Hayabusa Strike - a mid-top boxing shoe specially designed for dynamic footwork and quick movements. The distinctive feature is the adjustable tension strap across the instep, which provides a responsive and snug fit with immediate control. No loose laces to distract – the strap stays tight and secure.

The custom-made outsole is designed for fast, dynamic training routines and offers excellent grip during pivoting and lateral steps. The shock-absorbing midsole reduces fatigue during longer training sessions. Breathable mesh panels on the outside ensure optimal ventilation.

The mid-top structure offers firm ankle support without restricting freedom of movement – ideal for boxers who focus heavily on footwork and speed. The Strike is available in black and white.

Everlast Elite 2 boxing shoes

Everlast is one of the most iconic names in boxing — an American brand with over a century of heritage in the ring. Everlast boxing shoes combine classic craftsmanship with modern technology and are popular worldwide among both beginners and advanced boxers.

The flagship at Fight2Win is the Everlast Elite 2 - a high-top boxing shoe designed with one goal: optimal performance in the ring. The hybrid design combines premium microfiber with mesh panels for a lightweight yet sturdy construction. The advanced airflow technology keeps your feet cool, even during the toughest training rounds.

The high-top model offers maximal ankle support, reinforced by an extra ankle strap that keeps the joint firmly in place during quick changes of direction. The Michelin® outsole - the same technology used in professional running shoes - provides exceptional grip and durability on any surface.

The Elite 2 has a regular fit. Choose one size smaller for a tight, snug fit, or your regular size for more comfort. Available in black and navy.

Ankle guards for kickboxing and Muay Thai

Ankle guards are an essential part of the equipment for kickboxing and Muay Thai fighters. They provide compression and support around the ankle joint — exactly the spot that is heavily stressed during kicking techniques, quick pivots, and intensive footwork.

The compression effect keeps muscles and joints warm during training, significantly reducing the risk of injuries to the ankles and metatarsal bones. Additionally, ankle guards provide extra stability during lateral movements and make delivering kicks feel less sharp.

At Fight2Win you will find ankle guards from the following brands:

Hayabusa offers two models: the Support 2.0 for kickboxing and MMA - lightly stretchable with compression effect and reinforcement of ankles and metatarsal bones - and the Footgrips Ashi 3.0, specially designed for MMA and grappling, with silicone under the foot for maximum grip on the mat.

Twins Special delivers the AG Thai – an authentic Thai model exclusively available at Fight2Win. Available in multiple colors and sizes M and L.

King Pro Boxing has the AG Thai in two versions: Black 1 (sizes M, L, and XL) and Black 2 (one-size-fits-most). Both are designed for Muay Thai with durable, breathable material.

XPRT offers an affordable entry-level option with light stretch, suitable for both youth and adults.
