Specific features

  • + Indestructible Super Rich Microfiber

Of Indestructible Super Rich Microfibre is the patented outer material that Rival specifically developed for its premium product line. It is not standard microfibre—it is a unique material developed by Rival itself that withstands the demanding conditions of intense daily training without losing its shape, color, or structure.

The material combines two properties that are normally difficult to bring together: extremely strong and lightweight. Where traditional leather is heavier and stiffer, this microfibre offers a rich, premium look with a softness that feels comfortable right away—and stays that way, even after many hours of training.

This is the material that defines the RS and Guerrero lines, and the reason Rival gloves still look as good as new after years of use.

  • + Sparring version of Rival’s most iconic fight glove

The RFX Guerrero Sparring is the sparring version of Rival’s most iconic fight glove — same fit, same feel, extra protection. is de sparringversie van Rivals meest iconische fight glove — zelfde pasvorm, zelfde gevoel, extra bescherming.

  • + Soft, foam-like inner lining
  • + Excellent fit with a perfect hand compartment

Rival boxing gloves were developed in close collaboration with experienced boxers, with the aim of providing an excellent fit and a perfect hand compartment . The interior is shaped so that the hand rests naturally and comfortably in a fist—with no pressure points or unwanted movement while punching.A good fit is not only a matter of comfort—it also determines how effectively the force of a punch is transferred and how well the hand remains protected. Rival has refined this down to the smallest detail, so the glove feels like an extension of the hand.

Ergo Lace Track System Ergo Lace Track System

After tying gloves thousands of times over his 40 years in the sport, Russ began to realize that there was not only a pattern, but also a reason and logic behind the way gloves were laced.

When Rival developed the very first sparring glove, Russ (CEO and founder of Rival) wanted to implement several very important features. He wanted to create a glove that:

  1. would perform just as well as, or even better than, any other sparring glove on the market.
  2. could be used by top professionals round after round with complete confidence.
  3. would last longer than anything they had ever used before.
  4. would feature technology and design never seen before, which Russ had envisioned for at least 15 years.

Thus, the "ERGO LACE TRACK SYSTEM" was born. By using a deep, crisscrossing pattern around the wrist and a ergonomically correct 15-degree angle at the wrist, we created the perfect fit—while keeping the laces hidden at the same time.

This paved the way for Rival's very first sparring glove, the RS1. This concept was so successful that the entire high-end line was built around this design. All of these designs are Rival inventions and have since become industry standards.

In 2003, Russ Anber Rival Boxing Gear founded it—not as a businessman, but as someone who had spent decades in the gym and knew exactly what was lacking in the equipment available. He began innovating, patenting, and building, permanently changing the boxing world with patented designs in gloves, punching mitts, and handwraps.

“My gift was the ability to coach, break things down, analyze and make people understand how things work.” — Russ Anber

Tips for Rival Ultra RS1 2.0 Lace-Up Boxing Gloves

It is recommended to always use handwraps with your RS1s. In addition to reinforcing your hands, these also absorb a lot of sweat.

A disinfectant spray and a deodorizer- to help your gloves dry faster - are strongly recommended to keep your boxing gloves nice and fresh.

A lace converter converts the lace-up closure of your boxing gloves to hook-and-loop fastening, so you can put them on independently.

What is the story behind Rival Boxing Gear?

Is a lace-up closure better for boxing gloves?

Yes.

Although there are modern systems available today with hook-and-loop fasteners that come close to a lace-up fastening, a traditional lace-up closure remains the best way to properly close and secure a boxing glove.

Lace-up boxing gloves are usually secured with a single lace that crosses both sides. The lace is then pulled tight so that the gloves fit snugly.

The end of the laces is then tied around the wrist section of the lace-up boxing glove. Lace-up boxing gloves are otherwise usually virtually identical to gloves with an (easier) hook-and-loop closure.

Advantages of lace-up boxing gloves:

  • Snug, secure, and comfortable fit around the wrist
  • Usually padded wrists for increased comfort
  • The cuff around the wrists feels more streamlined and less bulky
  • No risk of opponents being scratched by hook-and-loop fasteners

Disadvantages of lace-up boxing gloves:

  • Requires assistance from another person to tie
  • Slower to put on and take off, so not ideal for shorter training sessions
  • The ends of the laces may cut opponents
What does Rival’s Conic Design involve?

Rival Boxing pays attention to the smallest details in ergonomics and anatomy.

The wrist of the gloves with Conic Cuff Design is set at a 15-degree angle so that it follows the natural angle of a boxer's hand.

With that detail in mind, the Conic design has been incorporated into Rival boxing gloves. Take a look at the back of your hand: you’ll notice that the line from the top of your little finger to your wrist runs diagonally, and there’s another angle from your wrist to your forearm. Unlike most other manufacturers, our boxing glove design takes this into account.

Because the wrist of the boxing gloves with Conic Cuff Design is narrower than the edge of the glove that fits around the forearm, these gloves fit a boxer’s wrist better, providing maximum comfort, stability, and performance!

What is the Angled Ergo Lace Track System?

When Rival designed the very first sparring glove, Russ Anber (Founder & CEO) wanted to implement a number of very important things. He wanted to develop a glove that:

  1. Would perform as well as, or better than, any other sparring glove on the market.
  2. Top professionals could use round after round with complete confidence.
  3. Would last longer than anything they had ever used before.
  4. Would feature technology and a design that had never been seen before and that Russ had envisioned for at least 15 years.

This led to the creation of the "ERGO LACE TRACK SYSTEM". Using a deep, crisscross pattern around the underside of the wrist and a correct ergonomic angle of 15 degrees at the wrist, Rival created the absolutely perfect fit when lacing up a lace-up glove, while hiding the laces at the same time. This paved the way for the birth of the very first sparring glove from Rival Boxing Gear, the RS1.

This concept was so successful that Rival's entire high-end line was built around this outstanding design. The culmination of this ultimately came a few years later when Rival introduced the "Angled Lace Track" for professional fight gloves. Since then, the "Angled Lace Track" has also been introduced on the RS100 Sparring glove.

How do Rival boxing gloves fit?

Rival boxing gloves are known for their close-fitting, ergonomic fit.

This is particularly true of the sparring gloves, which are designed to provide a safe and comfortable feel, with an emphasis on wrist support and knuckle protection.

As soon as you put on the Rival boxing gloves, you notice that the inner lining adapts to your hands and, so to speak, embraces them, regardless of the glove weight you choose. This is a unique feature of Rival, with a special foam-like inner lining.

They may feel tight at first, especially with handwraps. However, this ensures that after the “break-in” period, they offer a very good fit for narrow, regular, and wide hands alike.

They are known for their padding that is suitable and safe for both you and your training partner.

Each Rival boxing glove has a unique size chart that you should consult carefully.

Some fighters find them too tight at first, but over time (during the break-in period), they become increasingly comfortable.
