What is the difference between bag gloves and Boxing gloves?
Bag gloves are more compact, lighter, and have less padding than Boxing gloves. They are designed for training on the punching bag and pads—for speed, feel, and technique. Boxing gloves have more and softer padding and are designed for contact with a training partner. Bag gloves are not suitable for sparren—the padding is too thin to protect your training partner sufficiently.
What size bag gloves do I need?
Bag gloves are measured in ounces (oz). As a rule of thumb: the heavier the person, the heavier the glove. For bag training, you can also choose a lighter glove than for sparren—most athletes train on the bag with 10 oz or 12 oz.
What is Intelli-Shock technology?
Rival's patented Intelli-Shock padding is impact-adaptive: the harder the punch, the more the padding absorbs. This provides maximum protection for the knuckles and joints during intensive bag training. The RB50 and RB10 both feature Intelli-Shock padding—the RB50 has the thicker version, while the RB10 has the more compact version.
How do I maintain my bag gloves?
Always wear handwraps or inner gloves—they absorb most of the sweat and are washable. Allow the gloves to air out thoroughly after use—never store them in a closed sports bag.
Use a disinfectant spray after every training session. For microfiber PU gloves (some of the Rival models), a slightly damp cloth is sufficient for the exterior.
Treat the leather versions regularly with leather grease . Store them in a dry, ventilated place.
Can I also use bag gloves for pads?
Yes—bag gloves are also suitable for pad training. They provide more feel and speed than Boxing gloves. Note: for intensive pad work with a trainer who hits back hard, Boxing gloves with more padding are more comfortable for the trainer.
