Sugar Ray Leonard came out of a near three-year retirement to challenge the feared undisputed middleweight champion Marvin Hagler. Leonard's movement, showboating and sporadic bursts of activity convinced two of the three judges — but Hagler's consistent pressure and harder shots convinced the other. The split decision for Leonard outraged many and haunted Hagler for the rest of his life. He never fought again.
