Kickboxing K-1

K-1 WORLD MAX 2026 is a major kickboxing tournament held at the Second Gymnasium of the National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo. The program combines two elements. First, five K-1 World GP world titles are on the line across the Featherweight, Super Bantamweight, Lightweight, Super Featherweight and Super Lightweight divisions, with the reigning champion defending their title against a challenger in each bout. Second, the event serves as the opening round (Final 16) of the famous -70kg World’s Strongest Determination Tournament, K-1’s historic MAX format, featuring eight bouts between a total of sixteen fighters from around the world. The eight winners on the night advance to the Final 8, scheduled for December 29, 2026, at Yokohama BUNTAI, where the new world champion in the -70kg division will be crowned. For 2026, the qualification process has been expanded internationally: in addition to direct selections by K-1, qualifying tournaments have been held in Romania (Bucharest), Brazil (São Paulo), Russia (the Yekaterinburg region), Australia (Melbourne) and the Netherlands (Utrecht), complemented by a playoff in Fukuoka between winners from Italy, Spain, Greece and Australia. This makes 2026 the first edition in which the MAX tournament has been so explicitly organized as a global qualification system.

Participants from fourteen countries across four continents give the event significant news value for both the Japanese market and the international kickboxing audience.

For Japan, it marks the return of the classic K-1 WORLD MAX format to a major, symbolic venue in Tokyo. Internationally, the new qualification structure restores some of the global appeal the MAX tournament enjoyed during its golden years from 2002 to 2010.
