Michael “Mikey” Musumeci Jr.

Mikey Musumeci, nicknamed “Darth Rigatoni”, is an American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete and submission grappler. He is regarded as one of the most influential BJJ athletes of his generation.

The story

Musumeci began training in jiu-jitsu at the age of four in New Jersey and won world titles at multiple belt levels as a youth competitor. In 2015, at the age of eighteen, he earned his black belt. He went on to become a five-time IBJJF black belt world champion, winning titles in both gi and no-gi, along with Pan-American, European, and Abu Dhabi World Pro titles.

After his success in traditional competitive BJJ, Musumeci shifted his focus to submission-only grappling. He became the inaugural WNO bantamweight champion and subsequently the first ONE Championship Flyweight Submission Grappling champion. His technical approach to leg locks and his own “Mikey Lock” variation of the heel hook have had a clear influence on the modern grappling world.
