Croatian Boxing Federation

The Croatian Boxing Federation was founded on 22 October 1921 in Zagreb, making it one of Europe's oldest boxing federations.

Following Croatia's independence, the federation joined the European Boxing Confederation on 16 March 1991 and that same year co-founded the Croatian Olympic Committee. On 9 January 2025 the federation became a member of World Boxing.

The greatest icon of Croatian boxing is Mate Parlov, named the best Croatian athlete of the twentieth century. In September 2026, a statue of him was unveiled in his birthplace, Imotski.

The federation organizes the national championships, the 1. Hrvatska boksačka liga, a nationwide development competition held over multiple rounds, as well as various tournaments and memorial competitions. It also handles the registration of competitive boxers, publishes results, documents, and the competition calendar, and manages the address book of all clubs.

The HBS sends the national team to the Olympic Games, World and European Championships, and the Mediterranean Games. At the 2026 European Championships in Sofia, seven men and two women competed. In the youth category, Lorena Horvat became the 2026 European under-19 champion in Loznica, with Agata Stajcer finishing second, while Sara Beram became the first Croatian boxer to win gold at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto.

The federation has been a member of World Boxing since January 9, 2025, and of the European Boxing Confederation since March 16, 1991. At European Boxing Croatia is registered as a full member, with Bono Bošnjak as president. Since 1991, the federation has also been a co-founder and member of the Croatian Olympic Committee.

Within Croatia, there are six regional boxing associations: those of the city of Zagreb, the counties of Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Split-Dalmatia, Zadar and Istria, and the city association of Split. The clubs are organized by county, with the largest concentration in and around Zagreb.
