Pan-Cypriot Amateur Boxing Federation

The federation took its first steps in 1990, emerging from a group of staff and athletes from the Latsia boxing club, founded on 21 June 1982 with trainer Andreas Ioannou, and the Krevgas club with trainer Charis Kalapodas. The Idalion club was the third to be registered with the Ministry of the Interior and the Cypriot sports organization KOA.

The founders were Nikos Karapatakis, Andreas Ioannou, Alekos Alexandrou, Iosif Christodoulou, Andreas Argyrou, Charis Kalapodas and Andreas Karagiorgis. These three clubs formed the core through which the federation obtained its registration certificate, number 1593, on 5 July 1995 ; registration in the KOA sports register under number 389 followed on 30 October 1995.

Between 1990 and 1995, the federation had no funds of its own, and the founders paid for all the work and expenses themselves. The first board consisted of chairman Nikos Karapatakis, secretary Iosif Christodoulou, treasurer Alekos Alexandrou, and members Andreas Karagiorgis and Andreas Ioannou.

From 12 to 16 December 1990, the federation organized the sixth regular congress of the European Boxing Federation EABA in Cyprus, which the federation considers one of its greatest successes. With support from, among others, the then EABA president Emil Zjetsjev and the Greek Boxing Federation, it succeeded in registering Cyprus with the European EABA and the world governing body AIBA.

The federation organizes the Pancyprian Championships and publishes the selection criteria for athletes, organizes officiating and coach training, and sends national teams to international tournaments. Cypriot teams have competed in world and European championships, the Mediterranean Games, and the Commonwealth Games in all age categories.

The affiliated clubs are mainly located in the Nicosia region, including the Latsia Boxing Club, the Lakatamia boxing and kickboxing club, the Krevgas Boxing Center, and the Nicosia Amateur Boxing Club. For each club, the federation publishes the coaches and their star ratings, training locations and times, the year of registration, and registration numbers.

At European Boxing Cyprus is registered as an endorsed member, not as a full member, with Georgios Gerolemidis as the contact person. Historically, following the 1990 congress, the federation joined the European EABA and the world governing body AIBA.

Nationally, the federation is registered with the Ministry of the Interior and listed in the sports register of the Cypriot sports organization KOA, which also registers the affiliated clubs.
