GB Boxing

GB Boxing was founded in 2008 shortly after the Beijing Games, to deliver the World Class Programme for boxing. On its own website, the organization lists both August and October 2008 as the time of its founding.

Since its founding, boxers from the squad have won more than one hundred medals at major international tournaments, including sixteen Olympic medals at four Games: fifteen for Team GB and one for the Refugee Olympic Team.

GB Boxing manages two squads. The Podium squad is the senior group of full-time athletes who train in Sheffield from Monday to Thursday and are expected to win medals at major tournaments and the Games. The Academy squad trains every two weeks from Wednesday to Saturday and consists of younger boxers with the potential to progress. There are a maximum of forty-six places in total, for men and women from England, Scotland and Wales.

Each selected boxer receives a personal athlete allowance based on performance and track record. To be eligible, a boxer must have performed successfully at their country's national championships, have international experience and pass an assessment in Sheffield.

The organisation also works on coach development, performance pathways for new talent, anti-doping, integrity policies, equality and diversity, and publishes annual reports and financial statements.

GB Boxing is an associate member of World Boxing and emphatically not a national federation. The full members are England Boxing, Boxing Scotland and Welsh Boxing, which together represent thousands of clubs and are also GB Boxing's key stakeholders.

This distinction has practical consequences: at regular international tournaments, the boxers compete for England, Scotland or Wales in the shirt of their own country. Only at the Olympic Games do they box for Great Britain as part of Team GB.

At the London 2012 Games, boxers from the squad won five medals, with gold for Nicola Adams, Luke Campbell and Anthony Joshua, silver for Fred Evans and bronze for Anthony Ogogo. In Rio 2016 , Nicola Adams successfully defended her title, with silver for Joe Joyce and bronze for Joshua Buatsi.

Tokyo 2020, held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, yielded six medals and was considered the best British boxing result at the Games in more than a hundred years: gold for Galal Yafai and Lauren Price, silver for Pat McCormack and Ben Whitaker, and bronze for Karriss Artingstall and Frazer Clarke. In Paris 2024 , Lewis Richardson won bronze for Team GB, while Cindy Ngamba, who trains with GB Boxing, won bronze for the Refugee Olympic Team.

The current squad is preparing for Los Angeles 2028, with seven weight classes for men and seven for women. At the 2026 European Championships in Sofia, four boxers reached the quarter-finals.
