Russian Boxing Federation

Boxing came to Russia at the end of the nineteenth century. In 1894 , Baron Mikhail Kister published the first Russian textbook, English boxing, and founded the first boxing club in Moscow. At the athletics association in Saint Petersburg, the champion E. Loustalot, brought over from Paris, led a boxing section.

In 1913 , the St. Petersburg office clerk I. Grave traveled to London using his savings to learn English boxing. Back in Russia, he challenged all Russian boxers through the newspaper, won his bouts against Kaudelka, Avksentiev, and Lushev, and was proclaimed the first champion of Russia.

The federation itself was founded in 1992, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Its own timeline sets this history against the fistfights already mentioned in the Chronicle of Nestor.

More than five hundred tournaments are held annually in Russia at regional, national, and international levels. The federation manages the men's and women's teams, the calendar, the referees' commission, anti-doping policy with testing pools and suspensions, and a register of boxing schools.

In addition to Olympic boxing, the federation has fully fledged departments for professional boxing, with their own rankings, champions, managers, and promoters, and for koelatsjnyj boj, fist fighting, with its own structure and calendar. The power-punching discipline also has its own regulations.

There is a strong youth and educational agenda, including a school project called Boks v sjkoloe, a focus on student boxing, and an emphasis on patriotic education. The federation's slogan is "boxing connects".

At European Boxing Russia is registered as an endorsed member and therefore not as a full member, with Aleksandr Bespoutin as the contact person.

The federation itself has counted the medals from more than thirty years: at the Olympic Games 11 gold, 4 silver and 17 bronze for the men and two silver and two bronze for the women. At the World Championships, the tally stands at 29 gold medals for the men and 25 for the women, and at the European Championships at 71 gold medals for the men and 51 for the women.

Russia hosted the men's World Championships in Yekaterinburg in 2019, two women's World Championships in Podolsk in 2005 and Ulan-Ude in 2019, and European Championships in Perm in 2002 and Moscow in 2010, in addition to two Global Boxing Forums.

According to the federation, more than one million people practice the sport in Russia, including approximately 150,000 young athletes, with eight to thirty boxing departments in every city with more than 500,000 inhabitants. In 2017, a world record was set for the largest open boxing training session, and at the federation's proposal, International Boxing Day was established.
