ITF Taekwon-Do in the Netherlands

Taekwon-Do International Netherlands (TIN) brings together Dutch practitioners of ITF Taekwon-Do. The federation connects affiliated schools and athletes through national training sessions, seminars, exams, competitions, and an active Taekwon-Do community.

Practice focuses on technique and physical development, but also on respect, discipline, loyalty, and personal growth. These values have a place within TIN both on and off the mat.

A federation for athletes and schools

TIN supports the development of ITF Taekwon-Do in the Netherlands with a comprehensive offering for students, instructors, and officials. Affiliated schools provide their members with an environment where they can train, take exams, participate in seminars, and gain experience in competitive sport.

The federation brings together different generations of Taekwon-Do practitioners. Beginners steadily build their foundations, while advanced athletes continue developing their technique, teaching, judging, and participation in national activities.

History

From Korean martial art to Dutch dojangs

The roots of Taekwon-Do lie in Korea. General Choi Hong Hi is regarded as the founder of traditional Taekwon-Do, in which hand and foot techniques are combined with a clear philosophy of life.

The name Taekwon-Do refers to three pillars: Tae for foot and leg techniques, Kwon for fist, hand and arm techniques, and Do for the way or method. Within TIN, technique, character development, and the meaning of this path remain interconnected.

The federation focuses on the history of Taekwon-Do, the development of the ITF, and the growth of the sport in the Netherlands.

Training, exams and competitions

TIN organizes and supports nationwide training sessions, technical seminars and other events for affiliated schools. Athletes have the opportunity to deepen their skills and exchange experiences with practitioners from across the Netherlands.

Exams and gradings mark students' development. Instructors, coaches and referees also have opportunities to further develop their knowledge and expertise.

In competitive sport, sparring, tuls and technical execution come together. Good preparation, clear rules and qualified officials create a sporting environment where participants can compete and continue to grow.

The TIN community

In Zoetermeer, Voorburg, Weert, Voorschoten and The Hague, students train at, among others, TV Baukdu, Budoclub Voorburg, Vitae Taekwon-Do, Kumgang and Marris Gym. ITF TKD School Yongde is also part of the Dutch TIN community.

At these schools, students develop step by step in technique, fitness, character and self-confidence. National training sessions, seminars, examinations and competitions bring athletes and instructors together and give each dojang the opportunity to develop further.

Impact and meaning

Taekwon-Do as personal development

TIN approaches Taekwon-Do as more than a collection of techniques. Training helps athletes become stronger, more mindful, and more resilient, with a focus on posture, concentration, and perseverance.

Respect for the instructor, fellow students, opponents, and the dojang is part of everyday practice. Etiquette, responsibility, and self-control are also important aspects of the Taekwon-Do path.

This creates a sporting environment in which performance and personal development reinforce each other.

A living Taekwon-Do culture

In addition to training and competitions, TIN provides space for the broader culture of Taekwon-Do. Topics such as Korea, tuls, sparring, gradings, philosophy of life, ethics, and the history of the sport help students better understand their discipline.

Seminars, nationwide technical training sessions, and national gatherings strengthen the connections between schools and generations. Reports, photos, and videos show how the community has developed over the years.
