The Development of Traditional Karate

Traditional Karate originated from the development of unarmed martial arts in Okinawa and Japan, with influences from Chinese martial arts. Over the centuries, technical principles and the philosophy of Budo developed together into a complete martial art.

The WTKF describes the development of various technical lines, including Shuri-te and Naha-te. The contribution of Hidetaka Nishiyama also holds an important place in the history of modern Traditional Karate.

The federation aims to preserve this tradition while also passing it on to new generations of athletes, instructors, and teachers.

Championships, seminars and technical training

The WTKF organises world championships, international seminars, master courses and training camps. The calendar provides opportunities for both competitive sport and deeper exploration of the technical and pedagogical aspects of Traditional Karate.

The federation provides competition rules and technical guidelines for athletes, coaches, judges and referees. Dan registration and technical qualifications support the continued development of instructors and advanced karate practitioners.

International gatherings, such as the Winter Gasshuku and master seminars, bring practitioners together for intensive training, knowledge exchange and connections between different countries.

Affiliated organizations and karate practitioners

The WTKF works with organizations and federations that practice and develop Traditional Karate in their own countries. Through international championships, seminars, and training sessions, these communities remain connected.

Athletes train within their own dojo and national environment, but can also test themselves and deepen their knowledge during international WTKF activities. This creates a network in which technical knowledge and experience are passed on.
