Chan Wah-shun (1836–1906) was a Wing Chun master in Foshan, Guangdong Province, and Ip Man’s primary teacher. A student of Leung Jan—the legendary Wing Chun master and herbalist of Foshan—Chan Wah-shun taught Wing Chun publicly in Foshan and accepted Ip Man as a student at age 9, beginning the lineage transmission that would eventually spread Wing Chun worldwide.
