Copper Box Arena

Construction began in October 2009 and was completed on time and under budget in early 2011, at a cost of £44 million. The owner is the London Legacy Development Corporation.

The venue was initially called the Handball Arena, but was renamed the Copper Box in January 2012, after the building’s appearance and because it would host more than handball. During the Games, it hosted handball preliminary rounds and the fencing event of the modern pentathlon, and during the Paralympic Games, goalball.

The building was designed by Make Architects, Populous, PTW Architects and ARUP.

The design incorporates light pipes and rainwater collection systems, reducing energy and water consumption by forty percent.

The venue has 7,481 seats for concerts and 6,000 for basketball. During the Games, it was praised for the loud, rousing atmosphere at the handball, while the audience had to remain quiet during goalball.

At 3 February 2018 the Copper Box hosted the amateur boxing match between YouTubers KSI and Joe Weller, an evening that put internet boxing on the map.

The venue also hosted IBF boxing galas.

After the Games, the venue was converted into a multisport arena for community use, training sessions, and major events. Basketball club London Lions has played there since 2013, the women's team since 2017, and netball club London Pulse since 2018.

It is also a regular esports venue, hosting events including the 2018 Rocket League World Championship and the 2023 League of Legends MSI tournament.
