History

The venue opened on 10 March 2007 as a result of a public-private partnership between the city of Antwerp and the management of the Sportpaleis.

The development of the site began in 1997 with a refurbishment, followed by a new front building in 1999 and a Hospitality Center in 2005. The National Lottery signed on as the naming sponsor for ten years.

Building and architecture

The Lotto Arena is considered the smaller sister of the AFAS Dome: the venue layout and acoustics are similar; only the scale differs.

The building is located in the district of Merksem, on the border with Deurne and right next to Antwerp's ring road.

Atmosphere and experience

For sporting events, the venue accommodates 5,218 spectators , and 8,050 for concerts. The venue receives approximately 350,000 visitors per year.

The venue is home to the basketball team Antwerp Giants. The venue is operated by be•at.

Meaning

Despite its modest size, the venue quickly earned a place in the top hundred of the world's most visited arenas according to trade magazine Pollstar.
