MGM Grand Garden Arena

Construction began on 7 October 1991, and the arena opened on 31 December 1993 with a concert by Barbra Streisand. The cost was $28.4 million. Renovations followed in 1997 and 2000.

The venue is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International and is part of the resort itself, allowing visitors to walk from the casino into the arena.

The design comes from Ellerbe Becket, with Taylor International Corporation as the main contractor. The arena is built into the MGM Grand complex rather than being a standalone building.

The venue has 15,020 permanent seats and can accommodate up to 17.000. This size makes the venue more compact than the large arenas farther along the Strip, bringing the audience close to the ring.

The arena is known for its boxing blockbusters: Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield and their second bout, Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo Álvarez, Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Márquez in their fourth fight, Pacquiao vs. Keith Thurman and vs. Adrien Broner, Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury in their second bout, Canelo vs. Caleb Plant, and José Luis Castillo vs. Mayweather.

On May 2, 2015, Mayweather defended his WBA, WBC, and Ring titles against Manny Pacquiao, who defended the WBO and IBO welterweight belts. After twelve rounds, Mayweather won on points and became the undisputed welterweight world champion.

In the cage, the UFC held 42 events here, from UFC 34 in 2001 to The Ultimate Fighter 23 finale in 2016. Since then, the organization has used T-Mobile Arena for its major events.
