T-Mobile Arena

Plans for a large arena in Las Vegas were stalled for years by financing and public funding. It was only when MGM Resorts International contributed a site behind New York-New York that the project got off the ground: MGM and AEG announced their joint plan on March 1, 2013.

Construction began on May 1, 2014, and the arena opened on April 6, 2016, for $375 million. The venue is owned by AEG and MGM, 42.5 percent each, with Bill Foley as the third owner with a 15 percent stake.

The first UFC event was UFC 200: Tate vs. Nunes on July 9, 2016. In March 2017, the UFC signed a seven-year agreement as a permanent tenant, with at least four events per year.

The design is by Populous, with Thornton Tomasetti as the structural engineer. The complex covers sixteen acres directly behind the casino hotels on the Strip.

The venue has a separate configuration for combat sports: 20,000 seats for boxing, MMA, and wrestling, compared with 18,000 for basketball and 17,500 for ice hockey. Concerts range from 12,000 to 20,000 seats.

The arena was nicknamed "The Fortress". Because it is located in the heart of the Strip's entertainment district, visitors can walk straight from the hotels into the venue.

The ring at T-Mobile Arena has hosted, among others, Canelo Álvarez versus Gennadi Golovkin and Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Conor McGregor.

In the cage, the venue made a grand debut with UFC 200, where Amanda Nunes defeated Miesha Tate. Since the 2017 lease agreement, the UFC returns there several times a year.
