Children usually train with boxing gloves of 6 oz, 8 oz, or 10 oz. Very occasionally, for really small children, there are even 2 oz or 4 oz gloves.

The following are general guidelines. For each brand and model

Choosing by age:

up to 3–4 years old – 2 oz
up to 4–5 years old – 4 oz
up to 6–8 years old – 6 oz
up to 9–11 years old – 8 oz
from 12 years old – 10 oz

Choosing by body weight

up to 35 kg – 6 oz
35–45 kg – 8 oz
45–55 kg – 10 oz

The rule of thumb is: “the heavier the child in question, the heavier the glove should be”. A heavier boxing glove generally has more padding and is therefore safer for both the hands and the training partner. Should my child wear inner gloves or handwraps?
