Barendrecht

Barendrecht as a martial arts destination

Martial arts in Barendrecht revolves around boxing and krav maga. The range has largely emerged in recent years, in line with the municipality's strong growth.

What stands out is the focus on young people: both boxing and krav maga have separate groups for children and juniors.

Martial arts on the outskirts of Rotterdam

Barendrecht is located directly south of Rotterdam and grew rapidly through new residential areas such as Carnisselande. Many young families means strong demand for sports for children, which partly shapes the martial arts offering.

Barendrecht's proximity to Rotterdam, with its large kickboxing and boxing scene, also gives athletes from Barendrecht access to a broad regional network.

Martial Arts History

Organized martial arts in Barendrecht are relatively new. Kamato Gym was founded in 2016 by Tom Gevers and brought krav maga to the municipality, while Boxinggym Nova built a boxing tradition affiliated with the federation.

Together with Krav Maga Union and Box 'N Fit, they form Barendrecht's modern martial arts landscape.

Combat sports landscape

For boxing are Boxinggym Nova on the Zuideinde (from beginner to competitive boxer) and Box 'N Fit (boxing fitness and full-contact boxing) the established addresses. Krav Maga is taught by Kamato Gym and by Krav Maga Union at Sporthal Riederpoort.
