History

When naming the settlements in Eastern Flevoland, historical places that had disappeared beneath the Zuiderzee were used as references. Biddinghuizen was named after Bidningahusum, a settlement name that appears in written records from 790. That historical place is the namesake of the modern village, not an earlier phase of development at the same location.

On October 10, 1963, the Heijmink family became the first residents of modern-day Biddinghuizen, at De Voor 6. The village developed with facilities for education, community gatherings, religion, and sports.

From 1971 through 1992, Flevohof was located near Biddinghuizen. The site later developed, under various names and owners, into the Walibi Holland amusement park. In 1995, the area hosted the 18th World Scout Jamboree.
