Boxmeer is a town in the municipality of Land van Cuijk in North Brabant. On January 1, 2026, 12,931 people lived there, across an area of 11.16 km². Until 2022, Boxmeer was an independent municipality.
In martial arts, Taekwon-Do has the strongest presence in Boxmeer. Location on the Meuse

Boxmeer lies at an elevation of approximately 13 metres in the southeast of the Netherlands, in the province of North Brabant. With around 1,175 inhabitants per km², the town is more than twice as densely populated as the Dutch average. The town's name is reflected in its flag, featuring a yellow goat on a red background.

History

The castle and lords of Boxmeer

Boxmeer Castle was built in the 13th century on a former island in the Meuse. At the end of the 13th century, Lord Jan Boc I sided with Guelders against Holland, after which Count Floris V destroyed the castle in 1284/85. In 1897, the building was sold to the Sisters of Julie Postel, who established a hospital there.

From municipality to residential area

The former municipality of Boxmeer previously incorporated Beugen, Rijkevoort and Vierlingsbeek. On 1 January 2022 it merged with Cuijk, Grave, Mill and Sint Hubert, and Sint Anthonis to form Land van Cuijk.

Two Taekwon-Do schools

Taekwon-Do association Chang Hun Boxmeer trains in the gymnasium of Weijerwereld on Weijerstraat and practices the style that was introduced in the Netherlands around 1965. Dojang Weerbaar Fit at Oranjestraat 17 offers Taekwon-Do classes for children, young people and adults.
