Profile

The story

Jonathan Haggerty was born on February 18, 1997, and grew up on Walworth Road in London with a younger brother and two younger sisters. His father, an active Muay Thai practitioner himself, introduced him to the sport at the age of seven, and by the time he was eight, the young Haggerty had already stepped into the ring for his first official bout. That early start forged a fighter with an unusually vast amount of ring experience and an instinctive sense of timing.
Through the British amateur circuit and professional bouts for organizations including WBC Muaythai, where he won the International Super Featherweight title in 2018, Haggerty built a reputation as one of the sharpest technicians of his generation. He made his ONE Championship debut in January 2019 and, within a few months, defeated Sam-A Gaiyanghadao on May 4, 2019, to win the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship. This made him the first Briton ever to win a world title in the organization.

After two defeats to Rodtang Jitmuangnon in 2019 and 2020, he lost the title but used the setback to refine his game. In 2023, he defeated Nong-O Gaiyanghadao by first-round knockout to win the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Championship. On November 4, he also won the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship by knocking out Fabrício Andrade.

Haggerty defended his Muay Thai title against Felipe Lobo in February 2024 but lost the belt to Superlek in September 2024. His kickboxing throne remained untouched. He defended the title against Wei Rui in February 2025 and again against Yuki Yoza on April 29, 2026, during the inaugural ONE Samurai 1 event in Tokyo.

As of September 2026, Jonathan “The General” Haggerty remains the reigning ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion. He trains at Team Underground and Knowlesy Academy in Kent under Lyndon Knowles and Christian Knowles.

Fighting style

Haggerty fights with a sharp, technical orthodox style centered on timing and distance control. He combines fast, precise combinations with an excellent sense of counters and accelerates at the right moment to decide a fight within seconds. His Muay Thai foundation also gives him a broad clinch and knee arsenal, while his kickboxing provides explosive hand speed.
