Profile

The story

Louis Glismann, nicknamed Spartakus, is a Danish MMA welterweight from Copenhagen with a background in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He is affiliated with Arte Suave and holds a black belt in BJJ. After winning the Danish amateur MMA championship in 2016, he transitioned to professional competition. In 2023, he reached the semifinals of the Tipsport Gamechanger welterweight tournament.

A beginning in Japanese ju-jutsu. Glismann was born in Copenhagen in 1990. In 2006, at the age of sixteen, he began training in traditional Japanese ju-jutsu. He later shifted his focus to Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the discipline that would become a lasting foundation of his competitive career.

Six months in Brazil. In 2011, he spent six months in Brazil training. He then gained experience in international BJJ competitions. That period preceded his transition to MMA: first, he built experience on the grappling mat, followed by competitions that also included stand-up fighting.

The amateur phase. Glismann began training in MMA in 2015 and made his amateur debut that same year. In 2016, he became Danish amateur champion. This marked a national competitive milestone in his transition from a specialized ground-fighting sport to mixed martial arts.

The first professional fights. His professional debut took place on September 24, 2016, in Wolverhampton against Jake Constantinou. He lost by decision. On November 18, 2017, he earned his first professional victory against Mush Aslani, by submission after 3 minutes and 55 seconds in the first round. On February 10, 2018, he secured a submission victory over Joseph Whelan in Wolverhampton at Golden Ticket Fight Promotions.

Arte Suave as his home gym. His official OKTAGON and Gamechanger profiles list Arte Suave as his gym and BJJ as his background. This connects his international MMA career with the multidisciplinary academy in Copenhagen. In addition to the Danish championship, OKTAGON also lists him as a GTFP, Golden Ticket Fight Promotions, champion.

The 2023 Gamechanger tournament. On March 4, Glismann defeated Andrej Kalašnik by decision at OKTAGON 40 in Ostrava. In the next round, at OKTAGON 43 in Prague on May 20, he defeated Melvin van Suijdam by submission after 4 minutes and 57 seconds in the first round. That victory took him to the semifinals.

A notable reverse omoplata. The rematch with Van Suijdam ended with a reverse omoplata. This unusual submission reflected Glismann's BJJ background and became a defining moment in his tournament career. On September 16, 2023, he lost the semifinal in Frankfurt to Andreas Michailidis by knockout after 33 seconds in the first round.

Fighting style

A welterweight BJJ foundation. Glismann holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His official profiles emphasize submissions and his ability to make ground fighting decisive. His early victories over Mush Aslani and Joseph Whelan fit that competitive background.

The reverse omoplata against Melvin van Suijdam in 2023 provides a concrete example of this. The bout ended just before the end of the first round. By contrast, his victory over Andrej Kalašnik in the same tournament came after three rounds by decision: not every victory of his career was a quick submission.
