Atmosphere and culture

VBSK Albert Cuyp is a club run by volunteers. Juniors, recreationalists, seniors, and competitive boxers all have a place there. Sparring only takes place when a participant is ready, with clear agreements.

About this location

VBSK calls itself the “cradle of champions.” After a difficult period caused by declining subsidies, the club’s own history says it once again grew into one of the largest boxing clubs in the Netherlands.

History

The parent association was founded in 1935 to offer children in De Pijp a meaningful way to spend their free time. In 1967, the boxing school began, gradually taking over more and more space in the building on Albert Cuypstraat.

The association is based in a listed school building dating from 1891. Since 2015, the entire building has been used for boxing.

Famous fighters

The club lists, among others, Pedro van Raamsdonk, Romeo Kensmil, Rocky El Falah, Gilbert Hallie and Saïd Kwyassie as well-known boxers from its history. Head coach Digna Poelman started here herself as a boxer.
