Intro

Traditional Japanese martial arts form the core of Kenbukan. The association combines unarmed techniques with armed training forms and a focus on Japanese martial traditions. Jujutsu, Karatejutsu and Iaijutsu are part of the program.

Personal development and self-defense go hand in hand with technical training. The club caters to children aged six and over, young people and adults, with separate groups. A trial lesson or visit to the dojo must be arranged in advance by phone or email.

Atmosphere and culture

Respect, tolerance and discipline are core values in the dojo. The association emphasizes an eager-to-learn, humble attitude and a friendly, sociable training environment. Commitment and a willingness to learn are highly valued.

Various training groups accommodate children, juniors and adults. In addition to the regular Monday and Wednesday groups, the club lists special classes and course groups on Fridays.

About this location

Training without a focus on competition distinguishes the club's approach. As an association, Kenbukan does not participate in competitions or tournaments. The instructors describe regular seminars and training stays at home and abroad, with particular attention to Japan, as part of their continuing education.

History

Founded in 2003 Kenbukan grew out of years of interest in and study of various martial arts, along with an interest in Japanese culture and history. The club loosely translates the name as ‘house for the study of martial arts’.
