Intro

Danish Boxing Union (DaBU) has formed a nationwide association for Danish boxing since 1915. The union brings together club support, competitions, and coach training: from the first steps in the boxing gym to talent development and international participation.

The organization

Profile

The club as a starting point. DaBU connects local boxing clubs with a national competition and training structure. The federation publishes club directories for eastern and western Denmark and supports clubs with practical matters related to competing and organizing events.

More than just championships. In addition to competitive boxing, recreational boxing, diploma boxing, and masters boxing also have a place within the federation. Parkinson Boxing is also among the activities offered. This means the federation's work encompasses various ways to participate in boxing, not solely the path to a title.

A national and international connection. The organization combines Danish championships and international matches with a focus on talent and elite athletes. Its affiliation with World Boxing and European Boxing connects this national structure with international boxing.

Over the years

History

Founded on January 4, 1915. Danmarks Bokse-Union was founded on this date. The founding year serves as a fixed reference point in the history of organized Danish boxing.

A history of administrators and boxers. The federation's historical archive includes former presidents, national champions in the men's and women's categories, and results from Nordic championships, Olympic Games, European championships, and world championships. It connects the history of the organization with that of the athletes in the ring.

Within the sport

Activities and role

Competitions and club support. The federation provides information on competition rules, weight classes, approved boxers, and equipment. Clubs have practical support for registration books and applications for competition permits. Championships and international matches are part of the competition activities.

Three-level coaching course. The course consists of T1, T2, and T3, which build on one another in terms of content. The theoretical component gradually increases, while practical elements remain present at every level. The requirements for completion differ by level: a practical assessment for T1, a written assessment for T2, and experience as a judge at ten to fifteen bouts for T3.

Age-appropriate training. The course uses, among other things, the Aldersrelateret TræningsKoncept (ATK), DaBU's age-appropriate training concept. Additional themed courses cover strength training, nutrition, weight management, and physical preparation for competitive boxers.

Talent and elite. Talent development and the national team are established components within the federation. The organization publishes information about development centers, training sessions, and selection criteria.

Connection

Membership and participation

Affiliated boxing clubs. The club structure forms the foundation of DaBU. The official club directories and club support help clubs and boxers find their way within organized boxing.

International affiliation. DaBU is affiliated with World Boxing and European Boxing. These relationships place the Danish federation within the international and European boxing federation network.

Why this matters

Impact and meaning

From club training to a shared structure. DaBU's significance lies not solely in championships. Coach education, competition facilities, and club support connect local boxing training nationwide. The behind-the-scenes work is therefore part of the same sporting history as the bouts in the ring.

Boxing with different goals. The combination of competitive boxing, grassroots sport, talent development, and adapted activities shows that the federation supports multiple paths within the sport. This breadth is an important part of its place in Danish club life.
