Development of the federation

The KBN developed a nationwide structure in which karate schools, style groups, trainers, examiners, and competitive athletes can connect with one another. The federation supports both the traditional aspects of karate and modern competition and training practices.

Over the years, the range of styles, examinations, training courses, events, and elite sporthas expanded. This gives the KBN room for the various ways in which karate is learned and experienced in the Netherlands.

Activities and role

The KBN organizes and supports karate competitions, examinations and training courses. The association also supports trainers, coaches, officials and other staff members who contribute to the quality of the sport.

Within competitive sport, sparring and kata are important components. Para-karate and I-karate, elite sport, youth activities, dan examinations and various style platforms are also part of the offering.

Safe and healthy participation in sport is an important principle. The KBN provides information about a safe sporting environment, fair play and responsible training.

Clubs and community

The KBN connects karate schools and athletes in the Netherlands. Through affiliated clubs, practitioners can train, take part in activities, and develop within a nationwide karate community.

The federation also works with trainers, examiners, coaches, referees, volunteers, and committees. Together, they support the sport's classes, competitions, examinations, and training programs.

Impact and meaning

The KBN makes karate accessible to people of different ages, levels, and ambitions. Karate can contribute to fitness, self-confidence, discipline, concentration, and resilience, without every practitioner having to choose to compete.

At the same time, the federation supports the development of Dutch competitive and elite athletes. The combination of sport, art, technique, and personal growth gives karate broad significance within the KBN.
