Intro

K.B. Hallen is a sports and events venue on Peter Bangs Vej in Frederiksberg. Since the original hall opened in 1938, sports and culture have shared the same stage here. Boxing is among the sports that have found a place there, alongside tennis, badminton, and handball.
After the fire in 2011, a new hall was built and inaugurated on December 5, 2018. Its distinctive arched shape connects the new arena with its predecessor. Fixed balcony seats and retractable stands allow for different audience configurations; the layout and available seats vary by event.

Meaning

K.B. Hallen connects sporting history with a broader cultural memory. The same venue accommodated boxing and other sports, as well as performances by artists including The Beatles in 1964. Its significance therefore does not lie in a single discipline: different generations know the hall through a variety of experiences.

The rebuilding continued the venue's role as an events space after the loss of the original building. The new arena retains the arch as a landmark and gives the historic site a different architectural form. In this way, Frederiksberg preserved a place where sport and culture bring the public together.

History

The original K.B. Hallen opened in 1938. Kjøbenhavns Boldklub built a venue that hosted both athletes and artists. Boxing was part of the sports offering, alongside tennis, badminton, volleyball, basketball and handball. The hall thus became a shared stage for sporting and cultural events.

On 28 September 2011, the old hall was destroyed by fire. The building could not be preserved. The new K.B. Hallen was inaugurated on 5 December 2018. The same site thus once again became an event venue, in a new building that refers to the architecture of its predecessor.

Building and architecture

The arched form is the distinctive connection between old and new. Christensen & Co. Arkitekter designed the new hall not as a copy, but as a contemporary interpretation of the original architecture. Steel and concrete make large column-free spans possible. Glass at the front provides a view of the interior.

The foyer features the light installation Buen by Viera Collaro. Three curved aluminium tubes with changing coloured light follow the shape of the space. The work was donated by the Ny Carlsberg Foundation and is visible from Peter Bangs Vej.

The hall can be arranged for various events. Fixed balconies surround the floor. Mobile stands beneath the balconies can be unfolded by section. Floor seating and the use of the stands depend on the event layout.
