Branko Cikatić was born on 4 October 1955 in Croatia and passed away on 22 March 2020. The first-ever K-1 World Grand Prix champion, crowned at the inaugural tournament in Japan on 30 April 1993—a moment that secured his place in combat sports history forever. His path to the K-1 throne was built on a foundation of Muay Thai, karate, and boxing, giving him a versatile and adaptable style that was extremely difficult to prepare for. In the ring, he was powerful, technically sharp, and relentless. His victory at K-1's first Grand Prix put Croatia on the combat sports map and inspired a generation of Croatian fighters who followed in his footsteps. He passed away in 2020, but his place as a pioneer of the K-1 era is permanent.
