About this location

In 1981, boxers from RBV Crooswijk won 17 South Holland titles. In its retrospective on those peak years, the club describes itself as the largest boxing club in the Netherlands.

Since 1990, the club has had its own division for people aged 50 and over: the Dutch Windmills. The name refers to Bep van Klaveren's nickname. This division has also given boxing later in life a permanent place within the club.

History

Café owner Jan Klijnoot founded RBV Crooswijk on 1 May 1971. According to the club's history, he felt that other boxing associations paid too little attention to youth boxing. With the new association in Crooswijk, he wanted to give young boxers a place of their own.

At the end of the 1980s, competitive boxing within the association declined sharply, partly due to the rise of kickboxing. In the 1990s, sponsor Aad Veerman helped keep the club afloat. This enabled the association to continue its activities.

Famous fighters

In its club history, RBV Crooswijk names Arnold Looijen, Jan Klei, John Schildkamp, Leen Batenburg, Cor Ton and Ton de Groot, among others, as members of the first generation.

For the 1980s, the club mentions, among others, John and René van den IJssel, Ben van Til and Gerrie Sloof. These names are part of the club's look back at its competitive boxing history.
