Taio Asahisa, nicknamed “Karate Android”, is the reigning K-1 Super Lightweight champion and one of the longest-serving Japanese titleholders in K-1.

The story

Asahisa made his professional debut on September 21, 2014, at the age of sixteen, and immediately won the J-Network Next Generation Cup that year. Trained by his father, Atsushi Asahisa—the founder of Asahisa Dojo and the karate-based fighting style Asahisa-ryu Yōga—he built a reputation alongside his brother Hirotaka Asahisa as a technically skilled, unpredictable fighter. In 2020, he scored an upset victory over then-K-1 Lightweight champion Kenta Hayashi, a knockout that Combat Press named Knockout of the Year. Later that year, he claimed the K-1 Lightweight title himself. His rivalry with Yuki Yoza, who defeated him by decision in February 2022, led to a highly anticipated rematch at K’Festa 6 in March 2023. In 2025, he moved up to Super Lightweight (-65 kg) and won his second world title there. On September 12, 2026, Taio Asahisa will defend his Super Lightweight title against Alassane Kamara.
