Ben Whittaker, nicknamed The Surgeon, is an English light-heavyweight boxer from Bilston near Wolverhampton. He won Olympic silver in Tokyo, is known for his flamboyant showboat style, and has built a professional career with international titles.

The story

Whittaker was born on June 6, 1997, in Bilston near Wolverhampton. As an amateur, he won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, bronze at the 2019 World Championships, and silver at the 2019 European Games. The highlight of his amateur career was winning the silver medal in the light heavyweight division at the Tokyo Olympics, held in 2021. He lost to Arlen López in the final. On July 30, 2022, Whittaker made his professional debut with a TKO victory over Greg O’Neill in Bournemouth. On June 15, 2024, he won the IBF International title after defeating Ezra Arenyeka. After a technical draw against Liam Cameron in October 2024, he won the rematch by TKO in April 2025. In November 2025, Whittaker made his Matchroom debut with a knockout victory over Benjamin Gavazi and won the vacant WBC Silver title. In June 2026, he won his American debut against Richard Rivera. Since joining Matchroom Boxing, he has trained under Andy Lee; before that, he worked with SugarHill Steward and, during his amateur career, with Joby Clayton.
