Introduction

History of this sport

A sport in a growing city. Almere developed as a new city, with neighborhoods, sports facilities, and clubs for a growing population. Boxing also found its place there, both as a standalone sport and in gyms offering several martial arts.

From training to competition. The boxing ring means different things to different participants. Some learn punches, defense, and footwork for fun or fitness; others work toward sparring or competitions under guidance. These different paths are part of boxing in Almere.

Local connections

Boxing and kickboxing are different sports. Some martial arts schools in Almere offer both disciplines. Boxing revolves around punches; kickboxing also includes kicks and follows different rules. A famous kickboxer or kickboxing gala therefore isn’t automatically part of the local boxing history.

More than one training goal. The city offers space for people who want to learn a technique, work on their fitness, or prepare for competitions. The daily class and the coaching determine which place suits those goals.
